Recognizing the growing popularity of AR and Virtual Reality (VR), CrossComm aimed to position itself as a leading provider in the immersive tech space. Acknowledging that many people had limited exposure to AR experiences, I aimed to create a memorable and awe-inspiring encounter that would leave a lasting impression. By leveraging the power of AR, we sought to demonstrate the vast possibilities of the technology and establish a strong association between CrossComm and immersive experiences in the minds of our audience.
Creating Public Engagement
Given the limited availability of CrossComm’s client work for public consumption, I devised a strategic approach to foster public engagement with augmented reality through CrossComm-created initiatives. The idea was to provide opportunities for individuals to interact with AR experiences developed by CrossComm. The Black Wall Street historical marker, a symbol of local pride, presented a perfect opportunity to showcase the potential of AR storytelling and demonstrate our expertise to the local community and beyond.
The Black Wall Street AR Experience
I designed and developed an immersive experience that overlaid a magnificent video piece from PBS NC onto the Black Wall Street historical marker through the AR technology available on mobile phones. I collaborated with CrossComm’s 3D designer to polish the transition from reality to augmented reality in order to help sell the illusion.
The AR experience allowed people to scan the sign with their mobile phones and witness the historical story unfold in a captivating and interactive way. This experience aimed to educate, inspire, and create a connection between the audience and the rich history of Durham’s Black Wall Street.
Addressing CrossComm’s Goals
The AR experience sought to achieve two crucial goals for CrossComm. Firstly, the project showcased CrossComm’s commitment to celebrating and actively participating in the local community. By highlighting the history of Black Wall Street, we paid tribute to the significant contributions of Black entrepreneurs and aimed to promote inclusivity and diversity within our community.
Secondly, it aimed to establish a strong association between augmented reality and CrossComm in the audience’s minds. By offering a compelling and memorable experience, we positioned CrossComm as a trusted authority in the field, helping us foster future collaborations and client relationships.
Unveiling History through Augmented Reality
As a passionate advocate for immersive technologies and Director of Marketing at CrossComm, I embarked on a project to create an impactful Augmented Reality (AR) experience during Black History Month. With the goal of showcasing the potential of AR and establishing CrossComm as a leader in the field, I developed an immersive AR experience that brought the story of Durham’s Black Wall Street to life. This portfolio piece highlights the strategic thinking behind the project and its significance in addressing CrossComm’s goals.
