At FOX 50, one of our objectives was to maintain and increase the excitement and viewership for Steve Harvey’s two shows, Family Feud and Steve Harvey (his talk show). The aim was to create a synergy between the two shows and encourage audiences of one show to tune in to the other. My task was to creatively showcase Steve Harvey’s comedic talent and persona in a way that would entertain and attract viewers, both during TV commercial breaks and on social media.
Leveraging Steve Harvey’s Brand
As a Creative Services Producer, I created promos that featured Steve Harvey’s comedic persona and antics from both shows. I used clips that showcased Steve’s musicality, style, and laugh-inducing facial expressions. I weaved the clips together with copy that tied the promo together into a cohesive theme.
For example, in the “Steve Harvey Funk” spot, I leveraged the fact that Steve Harvey often incorporates his love for old school funk music into his comedy and overall persona. I spliced up two funk tracks and added hilarious clips and sound bites, and created copy with elements of rhythm and rhyme.
Reinforcing The Funny On Social Media
As the Social Media Coordinator, I created a graphic for the daily Family Feud question, turning it into an image to make it more attractive to the Facebook algorithm. The Family Feud graphic became the most popular style of post on our social media channels, with hundreds of people submitting their answers to the question in the comments every day. The use of images and graphics to promote the daily question was later adopted by Fremantle, the company that produces Family Feud, for their own social media channels.
I also created memes and other graphics from both shows to promote Steve Harvey’s presence on FOX 50 and even help to cross-promote our news shows. For example, given Steve Harvey’s iconic mustache is a regularly talked about feature of his on both of his shows, I decided to create a “Who wore it better” graphic comparing him to one of our news anchors, Gerald Owens.
Outcomes
Overall, the use of creative video editing and image creation helped to keep the buzz and momentum going for Steve Harvey’s two shows on FOX 50 and create cross-pollination between their audiences.
